3, 2008 COLLEGEVILLE, PA Twenty-first ranked host Ursinus College had all five starters reach double figures in scoring during an 81-61 victory over visiting Washington College in the Centennial Conference men's basketball opener for both teams tonight in Collegeville, PA. The Bears improved to 4-1 overall with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 2-3 with the loss. The Bears held a 38-26 lead at halftime and led by as many as 24 points in the second half. Ursinus shot 52% from the field in the game and 19-of-24 at the free-throw line. John Noonan led all scorers with 18 points for the Bears and also brought down seven rebounds. Remy Cousart added 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Matt Hilton and Keith Page scored 12 points each. Matt Howell rounded out the Bears' double-digit scorers with 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Junior forward Alan Kines (Towson, MD/Towson) paced the Shoremen with 16 points, while junior guard Andrew Chambers (Williamsport, MD/St. Maria Goretti) added 13. Freshman forward Chris Olsen (Ellicott City, MD/Mount St. Joseph) tallied a career-high 12 points for Washington. Ursinus outrebounded Washington, 48-29, in the game. The Shoremen did commit 10 fewer turnovers than the Bears (13 to 23). The Shoremen are back in action Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Dickinson. |
