Kohlrus Scores 22 Points in Loss

WESTMINSTER, MD – Host McDaniel College got a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds from Chad Arrington en route to a 79-72 Centennial Conference men's basketball victory over visiting Washington College tonight in Westminster, MD. The Green Terror improved to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 4-9 and 1-5 with the loss.

McDaniel ended the first half on a 12-2 run, capped off by a three-pointer by T.J. Odunlami with five seconds left which gave the Green Terror a 43-31 advantage at the intermission. The Green Terror run carried over to the second half as they scored five of the first six points of the period to open up a 16-point lead when a Chad Arrington lay-up pushed the margin to 48-32 with 16:04 left. The Shoremen responded with a 12-2 run to trim the margin to 50-44 with 13:36 remaining, but McDaniel countered with an 11-2 spurt to surge ahead, 61-46, on a dunk by Arrington with 9:55 to go. Washington answered with a 14-3 run to trim the lead to four points on a pair of free throws by senior guard Tim Kohlrus (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) with 3:23 left to make it 64-60.

A lay-up and free throw by Arrington with 2:56 to go pushed the lead back to seven points at 67-60. Washington freshman guard Kevin Breslin (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) then netted a pair of charity tosses with 2:06 remaining to make it 67-62. McDaniel's Miguel Jones made one-of-two free throws six seconds later to give the Green Terror a six-point advantage. Junior forward Alan Kines (Towson, MD/Towson) sank two more free throws for the Shoremen with 1:24 to go to make it 70-66.

Jones made two free throws with 1:12 on the clock to again push the lead to six points at 72-66 and, after the Shoremen came up empty on the next possession, Odunlami tacked on two more free throws with 57 seconds left to make it 74-66. Freshman forward Chris Olsen (Ellicott City, MD/Mount St. Joseph) made one-of-two free throws for Washington on the next trip down the floor. Kines grabbed Olsen's miss on the second free throw, was fouled, and sank a pair of free throws with 44 seconds left to make it 74-69. After Jones and Breslin each went one-of-two at the line on opposite ends of the court, McDaniel held a 75-70 lead with 39 seconds to go. Arrington made a pair of free throws with 30 seconds to go that extended the lead to 77-70. Breslin scored on a lay-up for the Shoremen with 22 seconds on the clock to make it 77-72, and Ryan Finch missed a pair of free throws with 20 seconds left, but the Shoremen could not score on the next possession and a lay-up by Odunlami with eight seconds to go capped off the win for the Green Terror.
