Shoremen Complete Sweep of Blue Jays, 63-57
Kohlrus Scores 24 Points in Final Game

CHESTERTOWN, MD – The Washington College men's basketball team finished its 2008-09 season with a 63-57 Centennial Conference victory today over visiting Johns Hopkins inside Cain Athletic Center. The Shoremen (12-13, 9-9 Centennial) got 24 points from senior guard Tim Kohlrus (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) in his final collegiate game.

Each team enjoyed a lead of five points in the first half and the Shoremen took a 23-22 advantage into the intermission. The teams exchanged the lead nine times in the early going of the second half before the Blue Jays (12-13, 7-11) took their final lead on a lay-up by Andrew Farber-Miller with 13:50 to play which made the score 36-34. The Shoremen took the lead for good when Kohlrus drained a three-pointer 13:18 remaining to make it 37-36.

Washington held a 39-38 lead before going on a 13-2 run to build a 52-40 lead on a jumper by freshman forward Adam Naymick (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) with 7:11 remaining. The Blue Jays answered with a 10-0 run to close within two points at 52-50 on a lay-up by Farber-Miller with 2:54 on the clock. A jumper by WC freshman guard Sal Schittino (Ellicott City, MD/Loyola Blakefield) with 2:25 left and a a lay-up by junior guard Andrew Chambers (Williamsport, MD/St. Maria Goretti) with 1:56 pushed the lead back to six points at 56-50. The Shoremen knocked down seven of 10 free throw attempts in the closing minutes to seal the win as the Blue Jays never got closer than six points the rest of the way.

Kohlrus scored his game-high 24 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field, 2-of-5 shooting from beyond the three-point arc, and 8-of-10 shooting at the free-throw line. Chambers added 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while Schittino added nine points and Naymick finished with eight.

Farber-Miller paced the Blue Jays with 17 points. Mike Henrici added 14 points, while Colin Kamm put up 10 points, a team-high eight rebounds, a game-high seven assists, and a game-high four steals.

The Shoremen, who won on the road against Johns Hopkins earlier this season, completed a season sweep of the Blue Jays for the first time since the 1987-88 season.

Washington's 12 wins this season were three more than the Shoremen posted in the previous two seasons combined.
