January 17,
2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD Junior forward Alan Kines (Towson, MD/Towson) put up career highs of 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead host Washington College past visiting Dickinson College, 73-65, in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game this afternoon in Cain Athletic Center. The Shoremen (5-9, 2-5 Centennial) completed a season sweep of the Red Devils (7-5, 2-5) with the win. Washington headed into halftime with a 33-22 lead following a three-pointer by Kines with five seconds remaining in the first half. The Shoremen opened up a 20-point advantage on a lay-up by freshman forward Chris Olsen (Ellicott City, MD/Mount St. Joseph) with 16:11 remaining in the contest which made the score 45-25. Dickinson whittled away at that lead, closing to within six points five times in the last five minutes of play, but the deficit proved to be too much for the Red Devils to overcome. Joining Kines in double figures in scoring for the Shoremen were senior guard Tim Kohlrus (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson), who scored 17 points, and freshman guard Kevin Breslin (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti), who tallied 13. Kohlrus went 11-of-12 at the free-throw line for Washington. Kizmahr Grell paced Dickinson with 18 points, while Cory Kenny added 19 points and eight rebounds for the Red Devils. Washington shot 43% from the field and 78% from the charity stripe in the win to Dickinson's 40% and 62%, respectively. The Shoremen also held a 41-31 advantage on the boards. The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Swarthmore. |
