2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD Visiting Randolph College held host Washington College to 27% shooting in the game, including 23% shooting in the second half, to post a 51-46 non-conference men's basketball victory this afternoon at Cain Athletic Center. The WildCats improved to 4-5 with the win, while the Shoremen dropped to 2-8 with the loss. Washington led by as many as eight points in the first half and took a 23-21 lead into the intermission. The Shoremen maintained a 25-23 advantage with 16 minutes left in the game before the WildCats scored the next six points to take the lead for good. The WildCats made a pair of clutch three-pointers down the stretch to keep the Shoremen at bay. Washington sophomore forward Andrew Chambers (Williamsport, MD/St. Maria Goretti) hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 37-35 with 5:39 remaining, but Pete Hamilton answered with a trey of his own on the next Randolph possession to push the lead back to five points. The same scenario happened minutes later. This time WC sophomore guard Alan Kines (Towson, MD/Towson) drained a triple with 2:25 remaining to make it 42-40, only to have Cameron Shepherd respond with a three-pointer for Randolph 13 seconds later to make it 45-40. Randolph made six-of-eight free throws in the final minute of the game to seal the win. Shepherd led all scorers with 12 points for Randolph, who won despite committing 23 turnovers and scoring just three second-chance points. Brandon Harris added 10 points and six rebounds for the WildCats, all in the second half. Kines and Chambers finished with 11 points and seven rebounds each for the Shoremen, while junior guard Tim Kohlrus (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) collected a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with nine points. The Shoremen return to action Monday when they host Eastern Shore rival Salisbury in a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game. |
