17, 2007 CHESTERTOWN, MD Sophomore guard James Restrepo (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing Area) scored a career-high 18 points to pace seven Shoremen in double figures as host Washington College rolled to a 94-72 win over visiting Polytechnic in the men's basketball season opener for both teams this afternoon at Cain Athletic Center. Washington sophomore forward James Whall (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) converted a lay-up for the first points of the game 26 seconds into the contest and the Shoremen led the rest of the way. Washington held a 54-39 lead at halftime before going on a 20-4 run over the first 6:57 of the second half to blow the game open. Restrepo scored 16 of his 18 points in an eight-minute span during the first half before sitting down for the rest of the period with two fouls. Restrepo shot 7-of-7 from the field and made a pair of free throws in the opening period. He finished the game 8-of-12 from the field. Whall, sophomore forward Bobby Klepacki (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion), and sophomore guard Alan Kines (Towson, MD/Towson) all put up career bests in points and rebounds for the Shoremen. Whall tallied 10 points and eight rebounds, Klepacki had 12 points and four rebounds, and Kines finished with 12 points and six boards. Junior guard Tim Kohlrus (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) added 12 points and eight rebounds, junior guard Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) contributed 11 points and six assists, and sophomore forward Andrew Chambers (Williamsport, MD/St. Maria Goretti) scored 10 points. Sophomore guard Scott Hampton (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) dished out a game-high and career-high seven assists in the win and brought down a career-best seven rebounds. Arjun Ohri led Polytechnic with 12 points, while Thomas Young added 11 and Jason Buckner finished with 10. Washington shot 52% from the field and was 26-of-36 (72%) at the free-throw line. Polytechnic shot 42% from the field and made 26-of-42 (62%) charity tosses. The Shoremen held a 48-26 advantage on the boards. The Shoremen return to action Tuesday when they host St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m. in a first round game of the Provident Bank Pride of Maryland Tournament. |
