Diplomats Oust Shoremen, 75-57
Chambers Leads Washington with 15 Points

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Derek Hines scored a game-best 22 points on 9-for-10 shooting as visiting Franklin & Marshall downed host Washington College, 75-57, in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Cain Athletic Center. The Diplomats improved to 12-9 overall and 7-7 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 4-17 and 1-13 with the loss.

Washington led 21-20 with 4:36 left in the opening half on a tip-in by sophomore forward James Whall (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) before the Diplomats went on a 10-3 run to close out the first half. Mitch Rhyner would give Franklin & Marshall the lead for good on a three-point basket with 2:53 to go in the first half to make it 25-22. Rhyner would connect on another triple with 1:13 left to give the guests a 30-22 lead. The Shoremen got two free throws by sophomore guard Scott Hampton (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) with 54 seconds left to provide the halftime margin at 30-24 F&M.

In the second half, the visitors led 46-42 with 11:21 left in the contest before breaking open the game with a 24-11 run over the next 8:07. During the run, the Diplomats had six different players score. The run was capped on a pair of free throws by Mike Baker with 3:14 left to give the Diplomats a 70-53 cushion.

James McNally added 14 points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds in the win for F&M.

Sophomore guard Andrew Chambers (Williamsport, MD/St. Maria Goretti) led the Shoremen with 15 points. Sophomore guard Alan Kines (Towson, MD/Towson) added 10 points for Washington. Junior guard Tim Kohlrus (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) corralled a game-high nine rebounds and just missed a double-double by one in points and rebounds. Hampton swiped a game-high four steals in the tilt.

Franklin & Marshall shot 55% from the floor and 46% from three-point range, while Washington shot just 35% from the field in the contest. The Shoremen shot just 20-for-36 from the free throw line, while the Diplomats were 12-for-19 from the charity stripe. F&M controlled the rebounding margin, 45-26. The Shoremen committed just 14 turnovers, while the Diplomats had 24.

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. Centennial Conference game versus visiting Haverford.
