Devils Snatch Win from Shoremen in OT, 56-55
Green Paces Washington with 15 Points in Loss

CARLISLE, PA – Host Dickinson College led for only 22 seconds of today's Centennial Conference men's basketball game against visiting Washington College, but it was the last 22 seconds of the contest as the Red Devils rallied for a 56-55 overtime victory over the Shoremen. Dickinson improved to 8-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 4-11 and 1-7 with the loss.

The Shoremen led throughout the first half and took a 34-23 lead into the intermission. Washington maintained a 46-35 lead with 10:43 left in regulation before the Red Devils reeled off an 11-2 spurt to pull within two points at 48-46 following a three-pointer by Kizmahr Grell with 6:49 to go. Dickinson later tied the score at 50-50 on a put-back by Timothy Crouch with 3:02 showing on the clock. Neither team scored again for the rest of regulation. Grell missed a pair of potential go-ahead free throws with 14 seconds left and missed a potential game-winning jumper at the buzzer as the second half ended.

The Shoremen scored five of the first seven points in overtime to take a 55-52 lead on a jumper by junior guard Tim Kohlrus (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) with 2:32 remaining, but a pair of Grell free throws pulled the Red Devils back within one at 55-54 with 2:18 left. Grell made another set of free throws to give Dickinson a 56-55 lead, their first of the game, with 22 seconds remaining. Kohlrus missed a jumper with four seconds left, but WC sophomore guard Scott Hampton (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) grabbed the rebounds and the Shoremen called a timeout with one second remaining. The Shoremen could not get a good look in the final second however as Dickinson came away with the win.

Grell led all scorers with 23 points, while Tom Leszczynski added 12 points and a game-high 17 rebounds for the Red Devils. Crouch also finished with 12 points for Dickinson.

Junior guard Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) led the Shoremen with 15 points, while Kohlrus added 14 points and nine boards.

Dickinson shot 40% in the game, while the Shoremen shot 34% in the game and just 8-for-30 after halftime. The Red Devils held a 41-32 advantage on the boards. Washington did force 25 Dickinson turnovers to their own 16.

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Swarthmore.
