Shoremen Declaw Wolverines, 9-3
Jardot Goes 3-for-4 in Victory

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Freshman Ben Jardot (McLean, VA/Flint Hill School) went 3-for-4 and senior Joe Coveney (Madison, NJ/Madison) pitched a strong seven and one-third innings as host Washington College defeated visiting Wesley, 9-3, in a non-conference baseball game this afternoon at Athey Baseball Park. The Shoremen improved to 13-16 with the win, while the Wolverines fell to 24-15-1 with the loss.

Wesley got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning as Geoff Kimmel and Bryan Reshetar led off the inning with back-to-back walks. Kimmel later scored on a wild pitch and subsequent error, while Reshetar scored on an RBI ground out by Greg McKee. The Shoremen scored four times in the bottom of the third as Wesley committed three errors. Jardot scored on an error and senior Doug Lutz (Pitman, NJ/Pitman) scored on an RBI single by freshman Ryan Normoyle (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) to start things off. Normoyle later scored on an RBI ground out by Coveney and senior Greg Perret (Morris Plains, NJ/Bayley Ellard) scored on a bases-loaded walk by freshman John Rolewicz (Bear, DE/Salesianum).

Washington tacked on its fifth run of the game when Normoyle scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth. The Shoremen made it 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Jardot and a sacrifice fly by Lutz. In the seventh inning, a sacrifice fly by Lutz and a single by Normoyle increased the Shoremen's lead to 9-2. An RBI single by Kevin Murphy in the top of the eighth scored the Wolverines' third run.

Jardot had two runs scored and an RBI in the game. Normoyle was the only other player with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Coveney allowed three runs, two of them earned, on just four hits and three walks to pick up the win. Senior Matt Swanson (Highland, MD/Mount St. Joseph) went the rest of the way, allowing no hits and no walks while striking out two batters.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home double-header against Muhlenberg.
