Red Dragons Hand Shoremen First Loss, 6-1
Normoyle Goes 2-for-3 with a Double for WC

COCOA, FL - The Washington College baseball team suffered its first loss of the season today, falling to unbeaten Oneonta State, 6-1, at the Cocoa Expo in Cocoa, FL. The Red Dragons improved to 7-0 with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 3-1 with the loss.

Oneonta State held a 3-0 lead before the Shoremen got on the board in the top of the fourth as freshman center fielder Ryan Normoyle (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) doubled and scored off a double by senior Joe Coveney (Madison, NJ/Madison). The Red Dragons answered, however, by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single by Jonathan Wolfanger and an RBI double by Carmine Caputo. The 6-1 score held up the rest of the way for Oneonta.

Caputo was the only Red Dragon with multiple hits in the game, finishing 2-for-5. Steve Juedes got the win for Oneonta, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk in eight innings of work. Michael Center pitched the ninth inning, walking one batter.

Normoyle finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk for the Shoremen, while freshman catcher John Rolewicz (Bear, DE/Salesianum) and senior shortstop Greg Perret (Morris Plains, NJ/Bayley Ellard) each added a pair of hits. Coveney, who started the game as the designated hitter, pitched four innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit and six walks while striking out six batters.

The Shoremen will return to action tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. game against Penn State-Greater Allegheny in Cocoa, FL.
