7, 2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD - Senior Greg Perret (Morris Plains, NJ/Bayley Ellard) registered a career-high six RBI and went 3-for-5 from the plate with two runs scored as host Washington College topped visiting McDaniel, 11-2, on Tuesday afternoon in Centennial Conference baseball action at Athey Baseball Park. The Shoremen are now 9-11 overall and 3-5 in the Centennial, while the Green Terror fall to 11-8 and 4-4 respectively. Washington has now won eight of the past nine over McDaniel. The Green Terror scored a single run in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. In the top of the second, Zach Croft singled home Matthew Pace and in the third Pace doubled in Harold Baines to give McDaniel an early two-run cushion. Washington knotted the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning. Freshman Ryan Normoyle (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) led off the inning with a triple and scored on a double by Perret. Perret would cross the plate on an RBI groundout off the bat of freshman Ben Keaton (Arlington, VA/Flint Hill School) to tie the contest. The Shoremen took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run frame. Normoyle drove in freshman Tony Oktela (Willow Street, PA/Penn Manor) on a single through the left side to put WC up 3-2. Perret then knocked in both freshman John Lambert (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) and Normoyle on a single up the middle to put the hosts up by a margin of 5-2. Washington scored six runs in the eighth inning, five of the six coming after two outs were recorded in the inning. Keaton scored on a single by junior Brian Kramer (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) to make it 6-2. With two outs, Washington got an RBI single from Lambert, a three-run three-bagger by Perret and an run-scoring single by junior Matt Boucher (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton). Senior pitcher Matt Swanson (Highland, MD/Mount St. Joseph) tallied the victory and improves to 3-1 on the season. He went 5 2/3 innings and scattered five hits to win his win his second straight start. Junior Chris Keiper (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) pitched the last two innings to tally his first save of 2009. He struck out McDaniel during his time on the mound. At the plate, Normoyle was 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the contest. Keaton went 2-for-5, while Oktela and Lambert each scored two runs. For McDaniel, Danny Snight took the loss and falls to 0-1. He allowed five runs in seven innings, fanning five Shoremen. At the dish, Baines went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the visitors. The Shoremen return to action Thursday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Swarthmore. |
