16, 2009 BALTIMORE, MD - Host Johns Hopkins topped visiting Washington College, 12-1, in a Centennial Conference baseball game today in Baltimore, MD. The Blue Jays improved to 14-11 overall and 6-4 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 9-14 and 3-8 with the loss. Johns Hopkins used a two-run home run by Brian Youchak in the bottom of the first and a solo shot by Chris Huisman in the bottom of the second to grab a 3-0 lead. Washington got one back in the top of the third when senior Joe Coveney (Madison, NJ/Madison) hit his first home run of the season to left-center to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Blue Jays busted the game open with an eight-run fifth to grab a 11-1 lead. In the inning, Youchak and Ryan Biner each had two-RBI singles and Todd Emr hit a two-run homer. Johns Hopkins added a single run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 12-1 and cap the scoring. Youchak led the Blue Jay charge as he went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored. Emr and Huisman each went 2-for-3 with two RBI, with Huisman scoring two runs. Jesse Sikorski was the fourth Johns Hopkins player to have two or more hits, going 2-for-4. On the mound, Chez Angeloni got the victory and improves to 2-2. He went five innings, allowing three hits and one run, while striking out six. For Washington, Coveney was 2-for-3 at the plate and scored and drove in the Shoremen's lone run on a longball. He also took the loss on the mound and falls to 0-2, lasting just 4 1/3 innings. The Shoremen and Blue Jays will complete their season series tomorrow with a 3:30 p.m. game at Athey Baseball Park on the campus of Washington College. |
