2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD - Visting St. Mary's (MD) got a complete game victory from Jon Gill as the Seahawks downed host Washington College, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Athey Field in a non-conference baseball game. The Seahawks are now 19-21-1 overall, while the Shoremen conclude the 2008 season with a mark of 7-22. Gill scattered six hits in the win, allowing one unearned run and striking out five. He improves to 3-4 on the season. St. Mary's scored one run in the top of the first and two runs in the top of the second to take a 3-0 lead. In the first, Blake Beaudoin singled to left field with two outs, scoring Matt Baden. In the second inning, the guests made it 2-0 on a sacrifice fly by Jacen Killebrew that plated Matt Streich. The Seahawks made it 3-0 on a two-out single through the right side by Mike Broccolino that scored Ian Simpson-Shelton. Washington scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth when senior Wes Anderson (Walkersville, MD/Walkersville) scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior Greg Perret (Morris Plains, NJ/Bayley Ellard). The play cut the St. Mary's lead to 3-1. The Seahawks made it 4-1 in the top of the ninth when Killebrew singled down the left field line to score Streich. The Shoremen loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with two away, but a fielder's choice ended the game. Baden went 4-for-6 for St. Mary's, who pounded out 13 hits in the win. Killebrew, Simpson-Shelton and Streich all had two hits each, with Streich scoring two runs. For Washington, senior Kirk Hines (Ellicott City, MD/Mount St. Joseph) reached base all four times, going 2-for-2 at the plate and drawing two walks. Anderson took the loss on the mound and drops to 0-1. He pitched four innings for the Shoremen in the contest. |
