2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD - Ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins University topped host Washington College, 12-1, in a Centennial Conference baseball game this afternoon at Athey Field. The Blue Jays improved to 15-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 5-9 and 1-4 with the loss. Hopkins scored two runs each in the second, third, fourth, and sixth innings and four runs in the fifth. The Blue Jays totaled 16 hits in the game. Todd Emr was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Ryan Biner and Nate Adelman each went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Both of Biner's hits were doubles. Joe Zaccaria got the win for Hopkins, allowing one run on four hits and four walks, while striking out seven batters in six innings of work. Junior shortstop Greg Perret (Morris Plains, NJ/Bayley Ellard) drove in sophomore third baseman Matt Boucher (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton) with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to account for the Shoremen's run. The Shoremen and Blue Jays will complete their home-and-home series Friday at Johns Hopkins at 3:30 p.m. |
