Catholic Rallies To Beat Washington In 11, 7-6
Boucher, Tidwell and Tozzolo All Pound Out Two Hits

WASHINGTON, DC - Host Catholic rallied from a 6-1 deficit to down visiting Washington College, 7-6, in 11 innings on Thursday afternoon at Talbot Field in non-conference baseball action. The Cardinals improve to 20-13-1 with the victory, while the Shoremen fall to 7-19 with the loss.

Catholic trailed 6-1 entering the bottom of the seventh when they scored two runs on a Joseph Devine two-run home run down the right field lineto slice the lead to 6-3.

The Cardinals scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to even the game at 6-6. Patrick Quintana scored on an error by the Shoremen to trim the lead to 6-4. Catholic cut it to 6-5 on a single by Robbie O'Brien that scored Tommy Little. The Cardinals tied the game at 6-6 with two outs when Washington misplayed a ball off the bat of Matthew Rosner that allowed Tommy Bowles to score.

The hosts completed the comeback in the bottom of the 11th when Rosner doubled to left field that scored Kevin Sweeney with one out.

Washington scored two runs in the top of the first to make it 2-0. Sophomore Matt Boucher (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton) singled to right field, driving in senior James Tidwell (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) and junior Tony Tozzolo (Calvert County, MD/Northern).

Catholic cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the third on a home run by Paul Yantosh. In the top of the fifth the Shoremen scored four runs to make it 6-1, all coming with two away. Tidwell plated senior Kirk Hines (Ellicott City, MD/Mount St. Joseph) on a single to give the guests a 3-1 lead. Tozzolo knocked in junior Rob Rifkin (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) on a bunt single to make it 4-1. Boucher capped the inning with a two-run double to score Tidwell and Tozzolo to give the Shoremen a 6-1 bulge.

Michael Bzozowski picked up the win for hosts and improves to 3-1 on the season. He tossed three innings and did not allow a hit. Little was 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Catholic.

For Washington, junior Matt Swanson (Highland, MD/Mount St. Joseph) took the loss and falls to 0-2. Boucher, Tidwell and Tozzolo all went 2-for-5 on the afternoon. Boucher drove in four runs, while Tidwell and Tozzolo scored two runs and plated one each.

Washington returns to action Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. Centennial Conference doubleheader at Muhlenberg.
