Baseball Coaching Staff

Head Coach: Al Streelman

Al Streelman was named the head baseball coach at Washington College in June of 1997. Streelman’s connection to the college spans four decades. He was the chief assistant coach for the Shoremen from 1979 until his promotion to head coach, specializing in pitchers and the infield.

A 1969 graduate of Washington College, Streelman was a four-year member of the varsity baseball team and played every position on the team but catcher.

Streelman’s 141 wins at Washington represent the third-highest total for a head coach in team history, a history which dates back to the 1870s. He trails only Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Famer J. Thomas Kibler (299 wins) and Maryland State Athletic Hall of Famer Edward L. Athey (330 wins).

Assistant Head Coach: Eric Royer

Eric Royer was named as an assistant baseball coach at Washington College in July 2004. Royer, a 1997 graduate of Bluefield College, came to WC from Allen Academy in Bryan, TX, where he spent four years as the head baseball coach. Royer also taught History and Government at Allen Academy.

Royer has a strong background in both coaching and teaching and was an umpire in northern Virginia for five years. He played one season of collegiate baseball at Prince George's Community College and was the starting third baseman at Bluefield for three years.

Assistant Coach:
Steve Sandebeck

Steve Sandebeck has been an important part of the Shoremen for over two decades. A 1973 graduate of Washington, he was a catcher during his four-year career. He specializes in coaching the catchers.

Assistant Coach:
Elliot Singletary

Elliot Singletary joined the Shoremen's coaching staff in the summer of 2008. A graduate of the University of Maryland, Singletary has a diverse baseball background.

Coming out of high school, Singletary was drafted in the 27th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the San Diego Padres, but opted for college, playing his first two years at South Florida Community College and his final two years with the Division I Terrapins. He was a scholarship player at both schools.

In 2006, Singletary received certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCA). He spent the 2007 season as the strength and conditioning coach for the Fort Myers Miracle, a Class A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. Singletary's work experience also includes stints as a coach and instructor at Cedarburg Baseball School, a high school and collegiate umpire, and an assistant coach for Southwest Florida Baseball, a summer travel team.

Singletary earned a B.S. in Kinesiology from Maryland in 2005.

Assistant Coach: Paul Taylor

Paul Taylor was a pitcher and outfielder during his four years as a student-athlete on the Washington College baseball team. Taylor, who graduated from WC in 1998, finished his collegiate career with a 9-5 record on the mound and a 3.32 ERA. As a senior, he served as one of the Shoremen’s tri-captains.

Assistant Coach: Mark Guida

Mark Guida was named an assistant baseball coach at Washington College in 2007.
