About the Sho'men Club
The Sho'men Club is the primary vehicle for annual athletics fundraising at Washington College. Since 1988, Sho'men Club funds have benefited each of the College's 17 varsity sports in addition to enhancing both the intercollegiate and recreational athletic experiences. Giving to the Sho'men Club helps the College maintain the highest standards of athletic success.
The College's 17 varsity sports have used Sho'men Club funds to purchase new equipment and uniforms, fund long-distance trips to competitive athletic events, enhance assistant coaches' salaries, and supplement their operating budgets in numerous other ways. Gifts to the Sho'men Club may be restricted to a specific sport or other athletic program (e.g. intramurals, athletic training, athletics communications) or may be made to the Athey Athletic Fund. Eighty-percent of a restricted gift will go directly to the designated sport or program, while the remaining 20% of the gift will go to the Athey Athletic Fund. Restricted gifts may be split between more than one sport or program at the request of the donor.
The Athey Athletic Fund is named in honor of legendary Washington College athletic director, coach, and student-athlete Edward L. Athey '47. Athey, who passed away in 2010, served as athletic director for nearly four decades and left a lasting impact with his passion and dedication to the entire department. The Athey Athletic Fund provides 100% of the annual cost of Goose Nation TV, the department's online home of live streaming athletic events. It has also provided for facility and locker room renovations and refurbishments, vehicles for use on campus by the athletic training staff, defibrillators, cross country recruiting trips, and support for intramural and recreational activities, and a host of other broad-based projects and needs.
All gifts to the Sho'men Club are tax deductible and count toward all other gifts and gift clubs at the College. Annual contributors to the Sho'men Club receive a periodic newsletter via e-mail including athletic recaps and feature stories. Gifts may be made online or sent via postal mail.
